Plas Pencelli is an approved provider for Mountain Training and from our base in the Brecon Beacons run training and assessment courses for Camping Leader, Lowland Leader and Hill & Moorland Leader qualifications. Mountain Training courses aim to inspire, enable and develop people in walking, climbing and mountaineering through the provision of nationally and internationally recognised skills training and leadership qualifications.

CAMPING LEADER

Camping Leaders supervise groups of novice or young campers, teaching them campcraft skills and creating a safe and enjoyable overnight experience. The Camping Leader qualification is ideal for people involved with youth development schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and for qualified Lowland/Hill and Moorland Leaders who want to include camping as part of a longer journey.

Hill & Moorland LEADER

Hill and Moorland Leaders enjoy introducing people to hiking in varied terrain, leading groups in the hills and exploring away from the path. Hill and moorland areas in the UK and Ireland have a different geology and history to the lowlands and mountains, offering an accessible feeling of wilderness to those who wander there. It is ideal for people who lead groups in the hills, might venture away from obvious paths but won’t encounter mountain hazards like steep rocky ground. Commonly used in terrain that presents an intermediate level of challenge.

Lowland Leaders take groups of walkers into the countryside so they can experience the benefits of the great outdoors. The qualification is suitable for new or experienced hike leaders and is ideal for young people, teachers, volunteer walk leaders and others who want to confidently lead people on paths in lowland countryside.

Mountain Training is the network of awarding organisations for skills courses and qualifications in walking, climbing and mountaineering that operates across the UK and Republic of Ireland. We set the standards for leadership, instructing and coaching qualifications, and skills training courses.
